ABS-CBN dominates Philippine TV in 2017

ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ leading media and entertainment company, dominated the country’s TV scene in 2017 with a 46% audience share or 12 points higher than the next TV station, according to Kantar Media nationwide data covering both urban and rural homes.

Multinational audience measurement provider Kantar Media, which uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, reported that the ABS-CBN’s action drama Brothers, Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids, and The Voice Teens topped the list of most watched programs in the country from January to December 2017 alongside seven other ABS-CBN programs.
 
Brothers, which tells story of a policeman in a quest to avenge the death of his twin brother, scored an average national TV rating of 38.6%. The show recently celebrated its second anniversary on air and continues to enjoy a massive following from its avid viewers.
 
Locally adapted Endemol Shine format Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids, meanwhile, hit an average national TV rating of 35.7% and named breakout child star Awra Briguela as its first grand winner after his impressive impersonation of rapper Nicki Minaj. ABS-CBN is the first and only network to adapt an all kid edition of the hit talent format. Even before the grand finals, the show already made it into international headlines after one of its contestants, Xia Vigor, went viral for her impersonation of Taylor Swift.
 
As for the Talpa’s popular format The Voice Teens, ABS-CBN’s adaptation ranked 3rd in the list of most watched programs in the Philippines for 2017 with an average national TV rating of 34.4%. It was the first teen edition of The Voice and second in the world, following Colombia’s La Voz Kids.
 
Other programs in the top ten were also produced by ABS-CBN namely fantasy action series La Luna Sangre (33.8%), primetime newscast TV Patrol (31.3%), kiddie talent show Little Big Shots (31.1%), weekly anthologies Wansapanataym (29.8%) and MMK (29.6%), fantasy drama My Dear Heart (27.6%), and romantic drama Magpahanggang Wakas (25%).
 
ABS-CBN remains to be the premier source of high quality Filipino programming in over 50 territories all over the world. It has sold over 30,000 hours of content worldwide.
 
Last year, ABS-CBN entered Colombia with the airing of its drama Corazones Cruzados via Caracol. This is the second Latin American country to air ABS-CBN content following Peru, which aired Puentes De Amor via PanAmericana. From Latin America, ABS-CBN also expanded reach in Africa after it sealed a volume deal with digital TV operator StarTimes at the recent MIPCOM in Cannes, France.
 
ABS-CBN also proved that Filipino talent could compete in the international scene after Filipino actor Zanjoe Marudo got an International Emmy Awards nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his exceptional portrayal of a schizophrenic father in an episode of ABS-CBN’s weekly drama anthology Remembering.
