Dataxis: Latin America SVOD OTT subscribers reached 18.2 million in 2017

According to Dataxis latest research by analyst Carlos Blanco, in 2017 Latin America reached 18.2 million of active paid account subscribed to a Video on Demand OTT service (S-VoD). This represent an annual increase of 29.8%.

This volume is equal to 25.2% of the total fixed broadband accesses, which indicates it has more room to growth. Netflix remains leader of the market and increased its share from 59% to 63%. In addition, Netflix grew quicker than the overall market: 39% for the same time period; Brazil is its major market. Clarovideo, owned by América Móvil, took second place with close to 20% of the active paid accounts; Mexico is its major market.

Mexico remains the top market for SVOD OTT with 40.5% of paid accounts. Yet, Brazil is the fastest growing market in Latin America, took second place with 35.1% of paying subscribers. Both countries exhibits high levels of competition with 20 and 26 players respectively reflecting the participation of “vertical “actors, concludes the Dataxis report.
