ABS-CBN currently partner with Fremantle in the region on Pilipinas Got Talent and will launch the new series of Search for the Idol Philippines in 2019. Idols has local versions in production across Asia in India, Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar.
Idols is the biggest search for a solo pop superstar ever. It’s the show that gives the public the unique opportunity to launch the career of the next pop idol. In the nationwide search for the best of the country’s singers, a judging panel of music industry experts whittles down the hopefuls before putting them through a tough and emotional testing process in the next stage.
Haryaty Rahman, SVP Distribution Asia, International, Fremantle, said: 'The success of American Idol and renewals of local versions across Asia have shown that the Idol franchise is as strong as ever. The Philippines has always been one of the biggest markets for vocal talent not just regionally but globally – and the new season on ABS-CBN is going to be spectacular.'
Macie Imperial, VP for Integrated Acquisition and International Sales and Distribution, ABS-CBN Corporation, added: 'ABS-CBN has been the home to all mega brands of format franchises. With our production expertise in formats adaptation combined with the unceasing world class Filipino talent, we believe Search for the Idol Philippines can be an avenue to showcase new Filipino singers once again. We are excited to include Idol in our roster of global formats.'
Since its launch in 2001, Idols has become a worldwide phenomenon and has produced a huge number of singing superstars around the globe, with over 700 million viewers having tuned into the show.
