GMA premiered: To The One I Love

GMA Network’s first primetime offering for 2019 is the satirical romantic comedy To The One I Love which premiered on February 4.

The series reunites one of GMA’s well-loved onscreen pairs, Kylie Padilla and Ruru Madrid from Encantadia. From the same producers behind the hit series Happy Together, To The One I Love will air in time for the Philippine midterm elections in May. It gives viewers a glimpse of Philippine local politics, all presented with a sprinkling of comedy and romance.

To The One I Love is Kylie and Ruru’s reunion project after working in the requel of Encantadia in 2016, and from their special appearance in the sci-fi series The Cure. Set in the milieu of a tricycle drivers’ association, the series will show the comedic and colorful side of elections in the Philippines. Like the jeepney, the tricycle is a popular means of transportation in the Philippines that reflects the culture and identity of Filipinos.

Kylie plays Gelay, a tough, strong-willed, independent young woman forced to take over her father’s job operating their tricycle. Ruru plays the role of Gelay’s childhood friend Emong, who falls in love with her. Conflicts arise when their fathers compete for the presidency of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers' Association or TODA. The lovers will find themselves tangled in the topsy-turvy politics of the association and the local mayoral elections.
